BADMINTON
CANTERBURY BEATS SOUTHLAND Canterbury beat Southland by 9 games to 7 in the final ot the South Island Minor Associations’ badminton campetition played at Oamaru. Southland had previously beaten North Otago and OtagoCanterbury had beaten Buller 15-1. and also beaten Nelson by default Canterbury, as the winner of the South Island tie, is awarded the cup presented by Mr George Pearce, of Dunedin. A similar competition has been in progress in the North Islarfh, and the winner there will soon be matched against Canterbury to decide the winners for New Zealand. The results of the Canterbury-South-land match were (Canterbury names first):— Men’s Singles.—G. Fiebig beat K. Lindsay, S. Lawn beat J. Rolfe. R. Hall beat L. Fraser. J. Beatty beat G. Stewart. Men’s Doubles.—Fiebig and Lawn beat Lindsay and Rolfe, Hall .and Beatty lost to L. Fraser and G. Stewart. Women’s Singles.—Miss E. Reaston lost to Miss M. Farmer. Miss G. Hall beat Miss J. Emerson. Miss A. Spence lost to Mrs L. Harvey, Miss M. Benjamin lost to Mrs M. Nicol.
Women’s Doubles.—Misses Reaston and Hall beat Miss Farmer and Mrs Harvey, Misses Spence and Benjamin lost to Miss Emerson and Mrs Nicol.
Mixed Doubles.—Fiebig and Miss Reaston lost to Lindsay and Miss Farmer, Hall and Miss Hall beat Rolfe and Miss Emerson, Lawn and Miss Spence beat Fraser and Mrs Harvey. Beatty and Miss Benjamin lost to Stewart and Mrs Nicoll.
