RUGBY LEAGUE
15 PLAYERS PICKED BOTH MANAGERS EXPRESS CONFIDENCE (Neto Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 23. England’s Rugby League team to play New Zealand in the first test at Carlaw Park, Auckland, tomorrow, will be chosen from the following players:— Full-back, P. L. Jones; three-quarters, W. J. Boston, P. Jackson, E. Ashcroft, T. O’Grady; five-eighths. R. Williams, R. Price; half-back. J. Helme, A. Burnell; forwards, D. D. Valentine, G. Gunney, C. H. Pawsey, G. A. Prescott, P. T. Harris, J. Wilkinson.
Both Mr H. Rawson, co-manager of the England team, and Mr W. Telford, one of the New Zealand selectors who will manage the Kiwis, expressed confidence today in their teams. The final selection of the English side will not be made until tomorrow morning. The positions in doubt are the fiveeighths and the half-back. Two new test caps are included in the English side. G. Gurney, the 20ryear-old Hunslet player, comes into the back row position, while T. Harris, who is interested in weight-lifting, replaces the normal hooker, T. McKinney, who is suffering from laryngitis.
