SOUTH ISLAND TOURNEY The South Island- table tennis championships were continued in Christchurch last evening, the finals being reached in all events except the men’s open singles. first round of the men’s singles. W. C. Orr beat R. W. Mercer, who was runner-up in the South Canterbury men’s championship recently. Orr then narrowly beat P. B. Spillane, who was the fourth seeded player, but he was unexpectedly beaten by his younger brother, R. J. Orr, m his next match.

The standard of play generally has not been as good as in previous championships, although some exciting matches are expected when the finals are decided tonight.
