TAX ON FARMERS’ LIVESTOCK

MR HOLYOAKE’S HINT

(New Zealand Press associuli WELLINGTON, July 21. Farmers who listened to remarks by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr K. J. Holyoake) at the Dominion conference of Federated Farmers today hope that there will be early legislation correcting what they regard as the anomalies of livestock taxation.

Mr Holyoake was giving the conference a brief account of his work for farmers. “There is nothing I can think of at the moment which is a major contention between myself and farmers,” he commented. “What about livestock taxation?” called someone from the floor.

“That’s not my administration,” replied Mr Holyoake. He began to talk on the subject, but then stopped with a remark that the press was present. Then he told the conference that there might be some legislation soon ‘‘which will not be displeasing to farmers.”
