N.Z. MAORIS BEAT TARANAKI

14 0 VICTORY IN MUD (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 21. Adapting themselves far better to conditions that could not have been worse, New Zealand Maoris beat Taranaki in a representative Rugby match at Rugby Park, New Plymouth, today, by 14 points to 0. The Maoris led by nine points at half-time. The Maori backs showed plenty of pace and initiative, and handled remarkably well. The pack showed better ball control than Taranaki, rucked fiercely, and was generally quicker to the ball. The game was played in a strong, cold wind and rain that varied between fairly .heavy to comparaatively light. The ground, churned by two curtain-raisers, was a sea of mud.

For the Maoris, tries were scored by W. Gray, D. Menzies, and A. Wilson (2). One of them was converted by H. Tauroa. The attendance was about 4000.
