HARE WOOD AIRPORT
Sir, —Now that Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd. has applied to the Government for permission to use Ohakea as an airport, where are all our enthusiastic supporters of Harewood? They seem to be asleep when, to my mind, they should be shouting to high heaven in protest against such a proposal. The example of the Mayor of Wellington in voicing his opinions every day about Ohakea seems to have borne fruit. Why can’t our own Mayor, Chamber of Commerce, Manufacturers’ Association, Mr Christie, and others who have done such good work in the past, do likewise and raise their voices in protest. It would appear that they are content to let Wellington undo all the good work that has been done for Harewood. They and others should protest and keep the pressure on every day; otherwise, they will let the best airport in New Zealand be by-passed. Let us all, therefore, get busy, and. make our voices heard before it is too late.—Yours, etc., HAREWOOD. July 21, 1954.
