A.A. INFORMATION FOR TOURISTS
AUSTRALIAN PARTY’S APPRECIATION Appreciation of touring literature supplied to members of an Australian press party who recently visited the South Island, has been expressed by the publicity manager of Tasman Airways (Mr R. Allender, of Auckland), in a letter to the secretary of the Automobile Association (Canterbury). “The information you asked us to relay to the party concerning facilities you provide for Australian tourists was given to them,” said the letter. “All members of the party received an enormous volume of hand-out material, but there is no question that what you provided was by far the most useful. Without exception, all members of the party had your looseleaf itinerary folder in front of them continuously while travelling.” Mr Allender’s letter was read at a meeting of the association’s council yesterday. Members of the Australian press party had been real ambassadors of the South Island, said Mr F. W. Freeman.
Now was the time for the council to agitate for better amenities at Harewood airport, said Mr B. J. Ager. The council should give the Christchurch City Council its moral support. The matter should have national backing, said the president (Mr W. R. Carey). He moved that the council should express the view that facilities at the airport should be improved and extended. The greatest help that could be given was better patronage of the air service to Australia, said the joint secretary (Mr E. S. Palliser). Many of the planes on the service arrived at and departed from Harewood with loads far below capacity. Mr Carey’s motion was carried.
