Australian Rowers Lose Boat
(Rec. 12.10 a.m.) VANCOUVER, July 21. Fire today destroyed the fours shell the Australian rowers intended to use at the Empire Games. This is a severe setback to the Australian team because suitable boats are not easy, to obtain in this area.
The New Zealand team’s own fouroared boat is not expected to arrive in time for the Games because it is aboard the ship Waitomo, delayed on the Australian coast. The team has already scoured western Canada and the United States for a replacement and turned one up in Seattle.
