USE OF POWER IN M.E.D. AREA
ALLOCATION EXCEEDED BY 10 PER CENT. Power consumption in the Christchurch Municipal Electricity Department’s area on Monday was 10 per cent, above the allocation, and the effort of conservation made by consumers was described by the department’s assistant engineer (Mr G. H. Battersby) as insufficient. No peak load cuts were necessary in the department’s area last evening. If they are required today, they will be in area C, comprising the Spreydon, Beckenham, Halswell, and lower Sydenham districts. A further drop in water storage was reported by the State Hydro-electric Department yesterday. At 9 a.m. the total for the South Island system was 76,380,000 units—a decrease of more than 2,000,000 units in 24 hours.
