CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL'S STREET COMPETITION Prizes: (1) for Best Street in City, (2) Best Street with Street Trees, (3) Three Best Streets without Street Trees will hove them planted by the City Council if practicable. (Narrow Streets or Main Highways are excluded.) The competition will be a success only if as a result each street is a little better by someone's effort; if it becomes a street to be proud to live in. Remember—One Householder can improve a street. Example is better than precept. Help the Ideal to make Christchurch a City Beautiful this is done by Friendly Co-operation. A neat and tidy street with many pleasing gardens becomes a pride that is shared by the children. Environment is the greatest factor in shaping character. Even the best streets never receive 100 per cent support. Remember—the opponents of one year often become the strongest supporters of the next. Your share is the opening up of your garden to passers-by, the lowering or masking of side fences, the care of street lawns, and above all, assisting neighbours <tf>nd fostering good fellowship and community spirit. A volunteer is needed in each street to link up with the honorary organizer: H. Tillmen, 46, St James Avenue, 'Phone 49-439, who will provide householders' circulars and give assistance if accessary. JUDGING END OF JANUARY, 1955.
