PROVINCIAL TITLE WON BY T. YESBERG The final of the 1954 Canterbury provincial amateur billiards championship. 500 points, between T. Yesberg (Richmond W.M.C.) and D. Collie (R.S.A.) was played on Monday evening at the Christchurch Working Men’s Club. Yesberg won by 191 points-. There was an excellent attendance. After beginning slowly, Yesberg reached the first hundred just ahead of Collie. Maintaining his advantage, he carried on, to win well. Yesberg is No. 1 player for Richmond in the inter-club tourney, and during the season has shown good form. In 1952 he contested the title against D. Higgins and in 1000 up he was beaten by 18 points. Collie is No. 3 player for R.S.A. I in the weekly tournament. He showed plenty of confidence and with more experience he should do better. The scores were: Yesberg, 500 (47, 39. 30. 28, 23, 22. 21); Collie, 309 (36, 27, 23, 23, 22).
