Te Maru Now Back In Work With A. Murdoch

TROTTING

Te Maru. an outstanding pacer in the 1951-52 season, when he gained five wins and two placings for £3642 10s m stakes, is back in steady work again, a s »j :une with the Yaldnurst trainer, A.. Murdoch. The Sandydale stallion has not yet been required to do any really serious work, but he has thrived 2 n light tasks allotted him. So far he has shown no sighs of the soreness which has prevented him being raced, to any great extent over the last two seasons.

Te Maru has not raced since last August, when, after two unsuccessful starts he had to be put aside, as he was showing signs of soreness. In the previous season, he had only four starts, and he was once placed. That was in the New Zealand Cup Trial at Hutt Park, when he finished third to Johnny Globe and Young Charles. He failed to reach a place in the New Zealand Cup, which was won by Mobile Globe.

• T , e , Maru ’s wins as a five-year-old included the Smithson Handicap at the New Zealand Cup meeting, in which he beat Laureldale and Mobile Globe. In October, 1951, he showed a glimpse of his real ability when he beat Young Charles and Blue Mist in the President’s Handicap at Forburv Park, and paced the two miles in 4min 14 2-ssec. On the same day, he beat Checkmate and Jndigo in the Farewell Handicap. Earlier in the season, he dead-heated with Young Charles in the Wildwood Handicap at Addington. A rising eight-year-old, Te Maru has never been extensively raced, and, if Murdoch can keep his sound, he should have little difficulty in paying his way next season. He is a good type of stal“P n ,by Sandydale from Daisy Scott, the dam also of Daisy Gold, Daisy Bar, and Sandy Scott. He is raced by his Timaru breeder, Mr A. Woods, who has raced the other progeny of Daisy Scott with fair success. Unraced Horses Murdoch is also training a number of unraced horses. They include Radiant Orient, a rising five-year-old mare by Radiant Walla from Orient Girl, a U. Recovery is a six-year-old gelding *by Indianapolis. He may show useful form next season. A rising three-year-old by Highland Fling from Salamis is an outsized gelding. He is a half-brother to two smart mares, Lassococ and Sally Walla. A rising two-year-old filly by the Light Brigade horse Red Emperor from Barley Almond is a half-sister to a useful winner, Bronze Indian. A rising three-year-old half-sister by Swordsman to Recovery is also showing promise. A rising three-year-old- Josedale Grattan filly is the first of the progeny of Sierra Sue to race.
