SHOALING OF AVON
COMPLAINT FROM DALLINGTON WORK BY DRAINAGE t BOARD The “unsightly shoaling” of the i Avon river below the weir at Medway street is considered by the engineer J of the Christchurch Drainage Board ’ (Mr E. F. Scott) to be largely due to the improvement further downstream, . causing the mud banks to be exposed j at low tide. The North Linwood-Dallington Burgesses’ Association had drawn attention to the condition of the river in a letter. The engineer considered that the river was too wide near Dudley creek and he proposed to narrow it at that point so as to stop silting. That would also enable the dragline to clear the silt from mid-river. The board decided last evening to inform the residents’ association that “the work will be put in hand as soon as opportune.”
