ARMY HEADGEAR
Reported Adoption Of New Peaked Gap (New Zealand. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 18. The Army’s “lemon-squeezer” hat is definitely on the way out as a working hat, according to an authoritive source. However, it will be retained for walking out and ceremonial parades in the meantime. It is understood that all berets, except the black ones of the Royal New Zealand Armoured Corps are to “march out” too. The new Army working hat is to be a peaked cap, soft and waterproof, with a neck protection flap, which will be folded and fastened round the cap when it is not in use. Production of this cap will begin shortly. Corps shoulder titles, or patches, are to be adopted generally. Army Headquarters has sent to Britain for samples, and when these arrive, production of them will be started; The titles, in apropriate corps colours, will be shaped to fit the uniform just below the shoulder.
