Maiden Flight Of U.S. Jet Transport
[Sec. 12.45 a.m.) SEATTLE, July 16. The first United States jet transport plane yesterday made her maiden flight, landing after an hour and 24 m’notes. The plane, the 95-ton swept-wing Boeing 707. took off after a comparatively short run. The plane, described as the American answer to the British Comet, was designed both as a transport for commercial airline service and as a tanker for military service.
