ALEX MURRAY WINS (New Zealand Press Association) TAURANGA, June 27. Alex. Murray, the Auckland professional, won the Tauranga Golf Clubs £2OO professional tournament, held on tne club’s course during the week-end. In a sensational first round of 64, Murray bettered the course record by four strokes. Murray had seven birdies and 11 bogeys. His performance in not having one stroke over the scratch figures was also a record. In spite of his excellent start, Murray was hard pressed by E. Southerden (Napier), who twice returned 69’s, and finished only two strokes behind Murray. J. Hare (Tauranga) holed in one at the fifth hole in the last round, but he returned 83. The amateur invitation event was won by M. R. Thompson (Hamilton), who played consistently to return an aggregate of 217 for the 54 holes. He was three strokes ahead of I. Deadman, the North Island champion, and G. L. Taylor (Hamilton), Who were equal second. The event, the second staged by the club, attracted a field of both professionals and amateurs equal to any Dominion championship. The course was in excellent order.
