Soviet Buys Barley From Canada
(Rec. 8 p.m.) OTTAWA, June 10. The Soviet Union has purchased about 1,000,000 bushels of Canadian barley. Mr C. D. Howe, Minister for Trade, gave a hint of this when he saidxin the House of Commons today: “We are selling grain to Russia.”
Later it was disclosed that the Soviet Union ha*d placed orders for two shiploads of Canadian barley totalling about 1,000,000 bushels. The purchase, the first for the Soviet Union in the, post-war years, was made through a Canadian exporter. The barley originally was obtained from the Canadian Wheat Board.
