INDO-CHINA DEADLOCK
Mr Casey Sees Mr Nehru (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW DELHI, June 11. The Australian Minister of External Affairs (Mr Casey/ hinted today that he had made further progress m finding an acceptable solution for the Indo-China problem as a result of his talks with Mr Nehru. Mr vasey said he thought his solution, which he did not dispose, might be acceptable to both sides. He told reporters this shortly before he left by air for Geneva. 1 “°ne of the outstanding things, I think everybody will agree is that the Communists—the Vietminh—should get completely out of Laos and Cambodia,” Mr Casey said. He did not want to associate Mr Nehru in anything, he Mid, but he added: Mr Nehru’s appreciation and analysis of the general situation m South-east Asia and our Australian appreciation of it show no essential points of difference at all.”
Mr C F ey said that the association of the free Asian countries, particularly India, with the Indo-China problem, was the essential to the success of t any solution. ‘‘lt would be anomalous in any collective arrangement in Indo-China to ensure its future, if that is to be guaranteed only by outside non-Asians or ? v » n a. Principally by non-Asian people,” he said.
A correspondent asked: “Do you think that as the result of your talks with Mr Nehru a generally acceptable solution may be reached at Geneva?” t-xT f Casey: “If it has to be ‘Yes’ or No, it will be ‘Yes.’ ” Mr Casey said he had issued an invitation to Mrs Vijaylakshmi Pandit to visit Australia this year.
