A decision on the future of the Nelson-Glenhope railway will be announced at Nelson tomorrow. The result of a last-minute bid to keep the line open will be reported to a representative committee there by the member for Nelson (Mr E. R. Neale). By a decision of the Railways Commission, the 50-mile line will close tomorrow, but appeals to override this move were considered by a special meeting of the Cabinet today.
Mr Neale was called before the Cabinet for consultation. He will fly to Nelson early tomorrow morning. The Prime Minister (Mr Holland) declined to comment tonight, except to say that the Government’s decision would be announced at Nelson tomorrow.
