Birthday Honours To Naval Men
(N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Aboard H.M.N.Z.S. Black Prince) AT SEA, June 9. Few New Zealand recipients of Queen’s Birthday honour were as proud as the two Chief Petty Officers of the Black Prince when they were personally congratulated by the GovernorGeneral (Sir Willoughby Norrie) today.
Sir Willoughby Norrie is on his way from the Cook Islands to Niue in the Black Prince.
Both men have been awarded the British Empire Medal. They are Chief Petty Officer-Telegraphist R. A. Haynes and Chief Electrical Artificer W. P. Badger, both of Auckland. Sir Willoughby Norrie shook hands with the two men when he did “mess deck rounds” with Captain J. F. Whitfeld today. They also received by radio congratulations from Sir Willoughby Norrie’s deputy, the Chief Justice, Sir Harold Barrowclough.
