DRAINAGE BOARD ELECTION
REPRESENTATIONS FOR POSTPONEMENT (From Our Own Reporter)
WELLINGTON, June 11.
Representations to have the Christchurch Drainage Board election postponed for 12 months, until late next year, have been made to the Government. The matter has not yet gone before the Cabinet, but z Internal Affairs Department officials have been considering the representations. Two other local bodies, the Auckland Drainage Board and the Auckland Transport Board, will be affected if the proposed amendment to the Municipal Corporations Act is passed by Parliament this session. Because of practical difficulties elections for these three bodies have always been held at a different time from the general local body elections, but without clashing with the General Elections. However, the 1951 “snap” election upset the sequence, and unless the law is changed the three local body elections will coincide with the General Election at the end of the year.
