48 YEARS’ SERVICE IN RAILWAYS DEPARTMENT
MR S. SIMPSON’S RETIREMENT Members of the Railways Department staff and representatives of shipping companies, carrying Arms, and customs and indent agents met recently to say farewell to Mr S. Simpson. Mr Simpson had worked with the department for nearly 48 years. Mr Simpson joined the department as a cadet in October, 1905, at Christchurch. .He went to Wellington in 1929, and in December. 1943, he was transferred to Greymouth to take up the position of officer in charge of goods. He retired on superannuation in June, 1946. but rejoined the department in April, 1948, as a temporary clerk in the. claims section. On behalf of those present, Mr T S Jackson presented Mr Rimpson with a set of engraved gold cuff links.
