COMBINED SIDE WINS BY ONE MATCH

The New Zealand golf team was beaten by 5 matches to 4 by a Cheshire and Lancashire side, selected by Mr G. Henriques, president of the English Golf Union, at the Mere Golf and Country Club.

The course, which is picturesque park land on sandy soil, and well bunkered, has a standard scratch score of 73. Woon returned the best New Zealand score with 71, and Jeffery did 73, only to be beaten by an opponent whose figures were 72. Results:—

Foursomes.—Woon and Silk lost to Jones and Mettam, 2 and 1; Jones and Jeffery beat Pearson i-nd Rannells, 1 up; Gibbs and Timms lost to Patey and Humphreys, 3 and 1.

Singles: Woon beat Jones, 3 and 2; Jones halved with Mettam; Silk halved with Pearson; Jeffery lost to Patey, 2 and 1; Timms beat Rannells, 3 and 1; Gibbs lost to Humphreys, 4 and 3.
