RECORD POWER LOAD

The demand for power in the South Island reached a record peak of 236,900 kilowatts betwen 5 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, but the State Hydro-elec-tric Department did not have to impose cuts. The previous highest peak was 224,000 k.w., and the peak on Tuesday evening, when cuts were imposed, was 222,000 k.w.
