John TIMARU URBAN AREA: LAWRENCE, Albert Edward MANNING, Archibald MIDDLE WARD: ARMSTRONG, Francis Gray i PAYNE, Arthur'Edward NORTH-WEST WARD: AGER, Francis Theodore TURLEY, Frederick Lovell SOUTH WARD: DUGDALE, Cyril John EDGAR, George It is further notified that instead of the district being divided into rural wards and urban areas represented by a total of sixteen members, the Act now provides for tiie division of the district into fourteen -wards, and for one member to represent each ward. The Act also provides that the Board may from time to time combine into a group of wards any two or more wards which form one continuous area and also that instead of electing one member for each ward a number of members equal to the number of wards in a combined group may be elected for that combined group. A schedule showing the names of the schools in each of the fourteen wards appears elsewhere in this issue of this and in pursuance of the abovementioned provisions the Board has decided to combine wards as follows: (a) The North No. 1 and the North No. 2 Wards to form the North Combined Group of Wards and to be represented by TWO Members. (b) The Christchurch South, Christchurch North, Christchurch East and the Christchurch West Wards to form the Christchurch Combined Group of Wards and to be represented by FOUR Members. (c) The Northern Central No. 1 and the Northern Central No. 2 Wards to form the Northern Central Combined Group of Wards and to be represented by TWO Members. (d) The Southern Central No. 1. and the Southern Central No. 2 Wards to form the Southern Central Combined Group of Wards and to be respresented by TWO Members - . (e) The South No. 1 and the South I No. 2 Wards to form the South Combined Group of Wards and to be represented by TWO Members. (f) The West No. I and the West No. ~2 Wards to form the West Combined » Group of Watds and to be represented by i TWO Members. ' It is further notified that an election ; to fill the fourteen vacancies caused by • the retirements of the present members will be held on Wednesday, 21st July, 1954. and that NOMINATIONS OF CANDIDATES will be received at the Board’s Office, 196-198 Oxford Terrace. P.O. Box 349. Christchurch, up to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 30th June. 1954. Candidates must be nominated in writing, and nominations—bearing the > signatures of two electors (members of school committees) and the consent of the candidates—must be received by the Returning Officer before nominations close.
