MILITARY TRAINING
Sir, —It is easy for some living on the fat of the land to boost military training. These are the views of a trainee. 1. The sacrifice is one-sided and it is only the fit man who is called on to lose £3O to £6O in wages while serving 10J weeks in Burnham. 2. Most rejects for some slight defect pursue their normal occupations, have the advantage of extra money and are secure in time of war. 3. We are practically deprived of marriage till after 30 years of age. 4. Our savings have been devalued by 30 per cent, since the act was passed. 5. We get no reduction in income tax for the loss of money. 6. Why not manpower all those under 40 to do the same hours on bousing on military pay and make the sacrifice even? It would be a change for many new settlers.—Yours, etc., JUSTICE PLEASE. June 11, 1954.
