SALE OF RIBBONWOOD JERSEYS A reduction sale of 45 head from the Ribbonwood Jersey herd was conducted yesterday by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Ltd., at Tai Tapu. The herd was reared at Little River and was the property of Mrs M. N. Tate. The highest price for cows, of 90gns, was paid by Mr T. Healy, of Southland, for a rising three-year-old, "Ribbonwood Ann.” "Elsfield Cupid’s Lass," H.C., went to a Temuka buyer for 80gns. The average price for cows was 53gns. There were other buyers for Southland and West Coast herds, and there was an unsatisfied demand for early-calving quality females. A heifer calf, the daughter of the top price cow, was bought by Mr T. Gillet for 40gns. The company has found a strong demand for Jerseys in the South Island, and there was spirited competition at this sale. It was found that the introduction of • selling under the cover of marquees at its last two sales was much appreciated by buyers. —AdvL LONDON METAL MARKETS (N.Z.
