UNIVERSITY STAFF WIVES’ CLUB

About 70 members of the Canterbury University College Staff Wives’ Club met at a pleasant social gathering at “Ilam” on Wednesday. Sprays of flowers were presented and a welcome extended to four new members. They were Mrs V. newly-ap-pointer matron of Bishop Julius Hostel, Mrs M. M. Bums, wife of the director of Canterbury Agricultural College, Mrs A. M. Neville, whose husband has recently joined the engineering stqff, and Mrs R. Yingling, whose husband is a visiting Fulbright professor from Connecticut, attached to the Department of Music.

The president (Mrs C. Malthus) - sent the best wishes of the club to Mrs A. K. Warren on the eve of her departure overseas, and to Mrs Drummond, who has left to live in Wellington. The gathering was also a farewell to Mrs H. R. Hulme, to whom the club presented a coffee table of inlaid New Zealand woods. Mrs Malthus expressed to Mrs Hulme the club’s gratitude for the many services she had so willingly rendered to it as honorary president.
