WRESTLING

N.Z. TEAM RETURNS FROM JAPAN

(New Zealand.. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 8. A variance In the interpretation of the rules had possibly affected the performances of the New Zealand wrestlers in the world freestyle amateur wrestling championships in Tokyo, said a member of the team, K. Ruby, of Wellington, on his return by flying-boat today from Sydney. The four New Zealanders—Ruby (ban-tam-weight) ; J. Armitt, Auckland (feather-weight); J. Monaghan, Southland (middle-weight); and A. Hollander, Auckland (light-heavy-weight)—were all eliminated in the first two rounds.

Apart from the different interpretation of the rules, the opposing wrestlers were "just too good for us,” Ruby added.

Monaghan said that none of the team had expected a win. The idea behind the trip was to. enable them to gain experience. It was the first time an amateur wrestling team had gone overseas.
