15,000-Dollar Bribe Offered Boxer
(Rec. 7 p.m). NEW YORK, June 4. Clarence Henry, ranked as Nd. 3 world heavy-weight contender two years ago, was arrested today on a charge of offering a 15,000-dollar bribe to the middle-weight boxer Bobby Jones, to “throw” his fight with Joey Giardello on June 11.. Mr Robert Christenberry, chairman of the State Athletic Commission, said the 10-round bout between Jones, No. 7 middle-weight contender, and Giardello. the third ranking 160pounder, would go on as scheduled in Madison Square Garden. Specific details of Henry’s alleged
bribe offer were not announced, but it was learned that at least One other person was being questioned by the police authorities.
