YOUTH FALLS FROM WHARF

DROWNING PRESUMED (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 6. A youth is believed to have been drowned after falling from the Orakei wharf while fishing about 10 p.m. on Saturday, He was: Frederick Russell Laurie, aged 17, of 11 Challenger street, St. Heliers. The youth had been sitting on the end of the pier. He could not swim. A companion tried to reach him after he had fallen, but failed, and then went for help. A police launch has been searching for the body. SHOOTER INJURED GUN DISCHARGED INTO ARM A 19-year-old game shooter was accidentally shot in the arm at Lake Ellesmere late on Friday afternoon. He was on his first shooting expedition and had earlier shot six swans. The. injured man is now in the Burwood Public Hospital. His condition last evening was satisfactory. He is Bryan Ralph McConchie. son of Mr C. McConchie, of 286 Hereford street. McConchie was a member of a party shooting from a boat. The accident occurred between 6 p.m. and 6.15 p.m., just as the boat was being brought in at the end of the day. According to an eye-witness, Mr McConchie was picking a single-barrel shotgun out of the bottom of the boat when it discharged into his right arm.
