WAGES OF KAWERAU TRADESMEN
JOINT REQUEST FOR INCREASES (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 4. Twelve hundred tradesmen, labourers, and clerks have made a joint approach for higher wages on the Kawerau newsprint project. About 14 unions are involved. “It is the first time we have joined forces,” said-the national secretary of the- New Zealand Carpenters’ Union (Mr F. Langley), in Auckland today. A two-day meeting of union representatives in Auckland has drawn up a “composite set of claims.” These will be discussed with the contractors, Fletcher, Merritt, Raymond, Ltd., at Kawerau next Thursday afternoon.
Mainly the demands are for higher wages and “removal of anomalies.”
