BUS AND TRAM REVENUE
IMPROVEMENT IN APRIL “HAPPIER OUTLOOK” FOR BOARD “I do feel there’s a happier outlook today than there has been at some of our meetings—it looks as if we are on the up,” said the chairman (Mr C. C. Holland) at the beginning of the Christchurch Transport Board’s meeting yesterday. Mr Holland was commenting on the revenue account for the first 25 days of the board’s financial year, covering the period to April 25, which showed a net improvement in revenue of £2844 over the corresponding period for last year. Traffic revenue increased by £5433, and other revenue by £166, while operating expenses increased by £2755. The number of passengers carried was 12,353 lower at 1,503,074. The period under review r is year included Easter, and there three days of trotting and three of racing in the period, against one of trotting and three of racing last year. This accounted for £777 of the increased revenue. The Easter revenue for the two years is compared elsewhere in the report. This year’s revenue, at £8674, was £1655 more than last year’s, and there was a higher revenue on each of the six days compared, except Sunday. There were three more fine days over Easter this year than last year. The revenue account for the period after April 1 to 25, which had been submitted to the finance committee, also showed an improvement of about £2OOO, said Mr Holland.
