FOREST AND BIRD SOCIETY
BIGGER MEMBERSHIP REPORTED
A big increase in membership, especially among juniors, and a greater interest in the objectives of the society, had been features that contributed to
a year of great progress for the Christchurch section of the Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand, said the chairman (Mr H. G. Bailey), reporting to the annual meeting of the section. The membership, including school groups, was now 1061, he said. The section had eight school groups, with a total of 367 members, including 143 from St. Andrew’s College, said the secretary (Miss M. Jennings). Miss Jennings reported that the Christchurch Drainage Board had erected warning notices provided by the society, at the Estuary sanctuary. The section will be represented at the annual meeting of the society in Wellington, on June 29, by Miss Jennings and Mrs W. S. Mac Gibbon. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr H. G. Bailey; secretary, Miss M. Jennings; librarian, Miss E. Armstrong; committee, Mrs W. S. Mac Gibbon, Miss M. A. McLachlan, Dr. D. E. Currie and Mr I. H. Gray; junior representatives. Edward Evans and Malcolm Gainsford.
