CHEVIOT MEMORIAL HALL OPENED
The key of Cheviot’s new memorial hall was turned yesterday afternoon by Mrs R. G. Anderson, wife of the chairman of the Cheviot County Council. A very large number of local residents attended this official opening ceremony. Thanks to residents for making the building possible through their generosity and efforts in raising money were voiced by the deputy-chairman of the council (Mr A. S. Murray). The president of the Returned Services’ Association (Mr A. M. Carnahan) congratulated the council and hall committee on the way they had carried out their responsibilities, and said that the building should serve the social needs of the district for many years. This memorial of material benefit and civic value should prove a fitting reminder of the debt owed to the fallen and the sacrifices made by these men. The Rev. K. G. Cree, the Rev. G. V. Hill, and the architect (Mr F, Willis) also spoke. A ball to mark the occasion was held last evening.
