FOLEY MEMORIAL TO FOX MYTH
GENDARME’S FINE EFFORT FOR SECOND “The Press" Special AUCKLAND, May 2. Fox Myth, a Te Rapa colt sustained a strong claim to three-year-old staying supremacy when he Won the Foley Memorial Handicap at Avondale on Saturday. It was his second success in a big handicap this season and brought his earnings during this time to £8490. He was very capably ridden by D. J. Wyatt and ran to the front about 50 yards from the finish.
A pleasing feature of the race was Gendarme's ran into second. Gendarme was pocketed until the last 100 yards or so. He looked imbalanced for a stride or two, while' attempting to get clear, but his final effort all but gained him victory* Elixir was third, and the outsider. Rose of France, fourth.
Altogether Fox Myth has had 19 starts this season for six firsts, three seconds, and a third. Besides the Foley Memorial Handicap and the Franklin Cup in March, he won the' Great Northern Derby on Boxing Day and the Great Northern St. Leger Stakes on Easter Monday. He has beaten Idaho, a highly-regarded Tren** tham colt, in three out of six encounters;
