LAW ON WORKERS’ COMPENSATION
BOARD CALLS FOR CONSOLtDATION (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 18. The Workers’ Compensation Board, in a prepared statement today, said it had suggested to the Government that it give urgent consideration, to consolidating the Workers’. Compensation Act, 1922, and its numerous amendmerits. This important act was referred to daily by a wide variety o£ persons quite apart from the legal profession. Both employers and workers arid their respective organisations, as well as insurance companies, were all vitally concerned. " The board considered that with this particular legislation in its present state, incorrect settlements could be made quitfe inadvertently, to the detriment of, an injured worker. It was realised that the task of consolidation was no light one, but the board was hopeful that it would be begun at an early date.
The board also issued a statement on the insurance of workers, and said it had asked the Labour Department to prosecute employers who failed to give the coverage required under the Workers’ Cbmpensation Act. The board advised employers to make sure that this provision had not been inadvertently overlooked.
