NEW GOAL POSTS 45FT HIGH

RUGBY PREPARATIONS AT LANCASTER PARK

Reporting to the Victory Park Board at the monthly meeting last evening Mr D. A. Colville, for the grounds committee, said the new goal posts for the oval would be ready for erection when the club competitions commenced soon after Easter. These posts, made of Oregon pine, were 50 feet long and would stand 45 feet above ground level. Mr R. W. Blazey, who presided, said he had never seen such good equipment as was to be provided. “I do not know of any higher posts in New Zealand and I am sure they will be appreciated by the footballing public,” he said.

Mr Colville said a number of improvements had been made to the stands and the embankment, and reported that the oval at Lancaster Park carried a fine sole of grass. After so much dry weather the condition of the ground reflected credit on the work of the caretaker, Mr C. Barnes. “I only hope that the water bill is not too high. We’ll know about that later,” he said.

The use of Lancaster Park was granted to Christ’s College, who will be hosts when the annual inter-second-ary schools sports are held on Wednesday, October 27. The question of suggested alterations to the members’ tearo.oms was referred to the grounds committee for a report. The use of the park was granted to the Christchurch Tramways Football team for the annual Kohn Shield football tournament on August 24 and 26 which has been held, for the last 40 years among teams chosen from the staffs of the Christchurch, Wellingtbn, Auckland and Dunedin Tramways. «r It syas decided to make further in?[uiries before granting an application rom the Linwood High School for the use of grounds between 3.15 p.m, and 4.30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays during the football season. The Lancaster Park Cricket Club was granted the use of the tea-rooms at Lancaster Park on the night of March 30 when a welcome home will be tendered to the New Zealand cricketer, M. Chapple.
