SHIPPING FARES TO BRITAIN
LINES ANNOUNCE INCREASES
HIGHER COSTS GIVEN AS REASON

WELLINGTON, February 14. “The increased cost of operating ships has compelled the New Zealand and Australian passenger lines to make an increase in the fares on their services to and from the United Kingdom." says a supplied statement by the lines concerned.
The revised fares will come into force immediately. The increases vary for different grades of accommodation. The following are the new minimum rates, with tne previous rates in parenthesis, for each class:— From New Zealand, by way of Panama, to Britain: first class, £155 (£140); one class, £lO5 (£95); tourist one class, £92 (£82); tourist class, £92 (£B2).
From Australia to Britain: first class, £155 (£135): one class, £9B (£83): tourist one class, £92 (£82); tourist class, £94 (£80); tourist “B" class, £9O (£76).
Corresponding increases will also be made in the fares to and from some of the ports of call en route.
The holiday excursion rates between Bombay, Colombo, and Australia remain unchanged.
