MUSIC TEACHERS HONOURED

FAREWELL PARTY Members of the Christchurch Society of Registered Music Teachers of ’'Tew Zealand met at morning tea yes‘erday to honour two of their mem■»ers—Miss Edith French and Miss Margaret Inwood. f Miss French, who is a graduate of Canterbury University College, is 1c be married on December 26 to an opera singer, whom she first met when she was furthering her musical studies in London, and after her marriage her home will be in Adelaide. Miss Inwood will leave Christchurch next month for a year’s visit to Britain and Europe. Mr Ernest Empson presided at the party, and each guest was presented with a shoulder spray. Mr Empson expressed the good wishes of all members to Miss French, and wished her happiness in the future when, he fell, she would be able to enjoy a full musical life. To Miss Inwood, who has been a member of the society’s council, he offered good wishes and said members would welcome her back on her return from overseas.

Mr Len Barnes (secretary) recalled that he had first met Miss French when she was an accompanist for a students’ revue, and he had later been associated with her for some years during which she had been accompanist for the Christchurch Operatic Society. He thanked her for her cooperation and wished her well. Miss Inwood, Mr Barnes said, had been a useful member of the council and had formerly been secretary of the society Last evening the committee of the Christchurch Operatic Society entertained Miss French at the home of the chairman of the committee (Mr Eric Craighead), Francis avenue.

PLUNKET SOCIETY RANGIORA SUBBRANCH The president (Mrs R. H. Glubb) presided at the December meeting of the Rangiora sub-branch of the Plunket Society, held in the John Knox Hall. There was a good attendance of members and representatives from the Ohoka and Loburn sub-branches. The resignation of Mrs A. H. T. Benjes as representative on the house committee of Karitane Hospital, was accepted with regret. Mrs Glubb was elected to fill the vacancy. Mrs W. Smith, who is leaving the district, was presented with a gift. She had been a member of the subbranch for nearly 30 years, and was treasurer for 23 years. Sister Welch presented the following report for the month:—New baby cases.' 22: visits to homes. 100: visits to rooms. 328; pre-school children, 72. After the meeting the committee entertained members of the associate committee and the Mothers’ Club. Sprays were presented to Mesdames E. H. Lander and K. Smith (Mothers' Club). Songs were sung by Mrs I. Polson. A competition was won by Mrs W. Cusack.
