BRITISH POLICY IN EGYPT
LABOUR SUPPORTS GOVERNMENT (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, December 17. Labour members of Parliament sprang a tactical surprise last night on Sir Winston Churchill by countering a Conservative revolt on Suez Canal policy with a n oticn backing the Government’s official policy. Labour members presented a resolution declaring that a settlement satisfactory to both Governments could be reached. The resolution welcomed the present negotiations designed to that end and urged the Government to continue them in the spirit in which they had begun.
In the House of Lords Lord Rennel of Rodd, one of Sir Wirrston Churchill’s adherents, yesterday gave notice of motion for a resolution declaring that in any new arrangement with Egypt it was essential for Britain to maintain a position consistent with her commitments and responsibilities.
