N.Z. VISITORS TO EMPIRE GAMES
DOLLAR ALLOCATION BY RESERVE BANK (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 16. Candian dollars will be available to New Zealanders wishing to see the Empire Games. The Reserve Bank has decided that a maximum of 400 Canadian dollars will be allocated, exclusive of fares to and from Canada, which are normally paid in New Zealand currency. This decision is mentioned in a letter from the Associate Minister of Finance (Mr C. M. Bowden) to Mr J. G. Barnes, M.P., who asked the question on behalf of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. Mr Bowden’s letter said that the 400 dollars would be the maximum amount, and the actual amount approved for any person would, of course, depend on the duration of the visit to Canada. The association, learning this last night, expressed its pleasure at the decision and its thanks to Mr Barnes. “It is clear that the Government and the Reserve Bank intend to see we get a fair run for the games,” said the chairman (Mr H. I. Austad).
