STOCK EXCHANGES MODERATE TRADING ON FIRM MARKETS Woollens were active on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. Markets generally preserved a very sound tone. Activity in Government stocks was largely confined to the new 1962 33 per cent., which lost ground fractionally in a sale at £9B. There was a reported sale of Bank of New South Wales rights at £7 15s. The bank’s shares had inquiry at £3l 7s 6d, but no sellers quoted. Sellers predominated for other banking issues. Breweries, frozen meats, gas and insurances were all dull on the day. Ampol Petroleums were in demand at 28s lOd, but sellers were very reticent. Kaiapoi Woollen preferences sold unchanged at 24s 3d, with more on offer at 24s 6d. Two parcels of Korma ordinaries sold at the steady rate of 14s, and more were wanted at 13s 9d—no sellers—whilst the company’s preferences sold 6d down at 18s 4d, with further inquiry at 18s 3d. .Dunlop (N.Z.) Rubber, which have had persistent inquiry of late, sold unchanged at 15s 6d, and buyers remained in the market at 15s 3d, but no further sellers quoted. Coles improved to sales and sellers at 17s 4d, with more buyers at 17s 2d. Woolworths, Ltd., had business and sellers at the fractionally improved price of 15s lOd, with buyers bidding 15s 9d at the close. McKenzies had sellers at 15s 9d, but buyers did not appear interested.
