ANTI-TRUST SUIT FAILS
DuPonts Cleared 01 Monopoly Charges
NEW YORK, December 14. At Wilmington, Delaware, the Federal District Court today dismissed the anti-trust suit brought against the E. I. DuPont Nemours Company. The case started in January, 1951. The firm was charged with violations of the Sherman Anti-trust Act in the manufacture and sale of cellophane and cellulose packaging products. In a 381-page opinion, Judge Paul Henry said the Court record revealed “not the dead hand of a monopoly, but rapidly declining prices, expanding production, and intense competition stimulated by intense research and other benefits of a free economy.” The Judge concluded: ‘‘Neither DuPont nor any other American company similarly situated should be punished for its success.”
