BANK OFFICERS TO RETIRE

JOINT MANAGERS OF A. AND N.Z.

Mr A. R. L. Wiltshire and Mr W. W. Riddington, joint general managers Y>f the Australia and New Zealand Bank, Ltd., will retire during 1954. Mr Riddington will retire on January 21 and Mr Wiltshire later in the year. Messrs H. D. T. Williamson and C. R. Darvall have been appointed assistant general managers of the bank as from January 1. Mr Williamson is at present senior chief inspector in the general manager’s office, and Mr Darvall is manager of the bank’s office at 351 Collins street. Melbourne. Mr Riddington joined The Union Bank of Australia, Ltd. at Maryborough, Victoria, in 1910. After serving as accountant and sub-manager he was appointed manager of that bank’s Sydney office in 1946 and became assistant general manager of the Union Bank in 1949. On the formation of the A.N.Z. Bank in 1951, Mr Riddington was appointed deputy general manager and on the retirement of Mr W. H. Thomas on April 1, 1952, was appointed joint general manager. Mr Williamson commenced his banking carrer with the Ballarat Banking Company in 1917, and 12 months later joined the Bank of Australasia at Ballarat. He has been manager at Dandenong, Townsville and Auckland. In 1946 he was appointed inspector- for New Zealand and in 1947 became chief inspector ip the general manager's office of the Bank of Australasia. On the formation of A.N.Z. Bank Mr Williamson became senior chief inspector of the new bank. Mr Darvall joined the Union Bank at Burnie in 1923 and received his first managership in 1942 when he was appointed manager of Wongan Hills, Western Australia. He served as manager at Horsham and Swanston street branches, and sub-manager at 351 Cdllins street. In 1949, Mr Darvall was appointed assistant manager of the Union Bank’s London office and on the formation of A.N.Z. Bank, he was appointed London office manager. In December, 1952, Mr Darvall was appointed as manager of A.N.Z. Bank, 351 Collins street, Melbourne.
