TRADE TALKS IN SYDNEY
Proposals By Britain
( Re<-- 11-45 P-m.) LONDON. Dec. 15. The Commonwealth finance conference m Sydney early in the New Year is seen by the United Kingdom as a conference of consolidation of the sterling area's resources.
It is emphasised that it is not a “crisis” or “emergency” conference such as that held two years ago and it is a step forward from last year’s meeting in London, which was largely a planning conference.
At Sydney the United Kingdom will put forward proposals that there should be an expansion of interCommonwealth trade and trade with the non-dollar countries, a further freeing of restrictions on trade between the Commonwealth countries, a concerted policy for the development of the Commonwealth countries, and a long-term policy for the purchase of commodities.
Another main objective at Sydney will be to impress both the United States and Canada that the sterling area as a whole is becoming stronger, expanding its economy and, in so many words, is a good investment.
