MOUNT PLEASANT ROAD
Sir, —I wish to support the views expressed by “Hoping” on the disgraceful condition of Mount Pleasant road and Tauhinu avenue. Mr Freeman’s comments are somewhat absurd, as these roads are within a mile of the .city boundary and the damage was caused during the rains that occurred some months ago. • His (remarks on pleasure traffic deserve special attention. as the greatest pleasure is experienced when the drivers have successfully negotiated this section of boulders and wash-outs. To conclude, I would point out that these roads are in daily use by local residents and business deliveries. —Yours, etc., T. KIRCHER. December 14, 1953.
Sir, —I am writing to support “Hoping” in his plea for improvement ot Mount Pleasant road above its junction with Bellevue terrace, and of the upper part of Moncks Spur road. Councillor Freeman displays, in hjs reply, an astonishing lack of knowledge of the roads in his county. We shall allow his “9000 feet” as a typographical- error. Even so, the roads in question begin several hundred feet below the altitude level he quotes, and the commencement of the unsealed portions is approximately two miles from the Summit road. I would suggest that, instead of giving a cursory glance from the seat of a wellsprung car, the councillor should walk along the roads mentioned, and he will have a different report to make. An increasingly large number of cars use these roads, the condition of which has long been a disgrace to the county —Yours, etc., DAMAGED SHOCK ABSORBERS. December 15, 1953.
