TRACTOR TYRE BURSTS
MECHANIC SEVERELY INJURED
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 11.
A mechanic sitting on a tractor tyre in a Wellington firm’s workshop to-, day was smashed against an 18ft high ceiling when the tyre burst underneath him. The mechanic, Mr Brett Scott Beer, of 130 Wallace street, Newtown, Wellington, was taken to the Wellington Public Hospital with multiple head injuries, a fractured left arm, and a severed artery in his left arm. His condition tonight is reported to be fair. Mr Beer was working on the tyre when it burst. The tyre was halffilled with water and inflated to a pressure of about 451 b.
PEDESTRIAN KILLED
STRUCK BY MOTORCYCLE (New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, December 11. A woman received fatal injuries when she walked into the side of a passing motor-cycle when crossing a street in Blenheim last night. She was: Mrs Clara Goldsmith, aged 79, a widow. Death was almost instantaneous. An inquest opened this morning was adjourned sine die.
MOTORCYCLIST DIES IN HOSPITAL
(New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, December 11. Mr Trevor Williams, aged 23, of Maitai valley, Nelson, who received a fractured skull in a motor-cycle accident last Saturday evening, has died in the Nelson Hospital. Mr Williams, an employee of the State Hydro-electric Department, at Newton Flat, in the Buller Gorge, was the rider of a motor-cycle which ran into the rear of a car in Rutherford street.
