DENSE FOGS IN BRITAIN
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Wov. 17. The first dense fog of the winter fell in London today, tying up rail, road and air traffic.
It cleared a little at midday, and fell again tonight. The Air Ministry forecast that it would last two or three days, and “might get worse.” Visibility in London was five yards this morning. Visibility was 10 yards in Manchester, when Princess Margaret reopened the Royal Exchange, centre of the Lancashire cotton industry. The Royal car crept through streets as dark as night. / The Duke of Edinburgh drove his own car through the fog when he returned from Sandringham to Buckingham Palace this afternoon. London airport was out of operation for most of the day.
