ELLERSLIE TRIP ABANDONED

BREAKDOWN BY ASSEMBLY

OVERBOARD TO RUN IN DUNEDIN CUP

A trip to Ellerslie for the Royal ' Auckland Cup meeting was planned . for Overboard and Assembly, but |: these arrangements were abandoned• * when Assembly broke down after ■ winning the Dwell Handicap on the ? i second day of the New Zealand Cup meeting last week. 1 Overboard will now do his holiday . racing at Wingatui, where the Dun- s edin Cup will be one of his main a missions. Later he will race at the Royal meeting at Trentham. : Overboard finished hack racing by ’ winning the Otaio Plate at Riccarton • J last Saturday. His form has not been ; solid, but he should develop into one ■' of the best young stayers at Riccarton.: He is not a boy’s horse and some difficulty may be found in getting a I suitable’ light-weight horseman fori 1 him in the Dunedin Cup. But if he can be ridden to the best advantage i he will be a light-weight prospect. < Assembly’s breakdown was bad luck for Mr J. B. Douglas-Clifford and his trainer, A. Cults. but it may not bei serious enough to keep him out of; racing for the rest of the season. This Royal Commission gelding was a cred- ’ itable third behind Privy Council and . Hush Money in the Welcome Stakes i and was not seriously tested to win | the Dwell Handicap. This was his | second win in three starts. J. S. Shaw will take Vaiescure and Kingship north for the Auckland Cup S i meeting. Vaiescure ran two very good races av Riccarton. finishing fourth in the New : Zealand Cup and third in the Metropolitan | Handicap- After his hard race in the cup • he did not show much cash in the Canterbury Cup on the second day of the meeting. but he recovered quickly to follow Hutton and Ketledrum home in the Metropolitan. Kingship attempted to lead all the way in the-Members' Handicap, seven furlongs, last Saturday, but weakened slightly to finish close up sixth. He has great speed, which he shows to the best advantage on firm tracks, and he should pay his way on the northern trip. Gold Scheme was not nominated for the Roval Auckland Cup, and his next big mission will be the Royal Wellington Cup at Trentham in January. The reverse going at Ellerslie was not expected to suit the New Zealand Cup winner. Gold Trend, a two-year-old half-brother to Gold Scheme and Personality’, had the first race of his career in the Pioneer Handicap at Riccarton last Saturday. Gold Trend’s placid behaviour m the birdcage and at the barrier marked mm out for attention. He finished eighth. Gold Trend is by Gold Nib. He resembles Personality more than Gold Scheme.
